Self-Inflating Mattress
A self-inflating mat, or self-inflating air mattress, is one of the most popular and reliable products made by Vinyl Technology, as a defense contractor manufacturer.
The mattress is created by installing a layer of compressible foam inside an airtight vacuum, which is then sealed off by a valve. The air mattress self-inflates when you open the valve, allowing air to rush into the mat, expanding the foam layered inside. VTL is a custom defense contract manufacturer that creates self-inflating mats and mattresses for military and commercial use.

As chemical weapons continued to be a threat in the early 2000s, US troops needed to be protected and were armed with gas masks. At the same time, the US government required custom defense manufacturing for a durable, high-quality bag in high volume.

The investment in manufacturing the required volume was significant, but VTL stepped up and purchased an ETON material delivery system for steady volume over the long length of the contract. That material delivery system is still in use today, manufacturing the same product at a sustained volume and to very demanding specifications.

Vinyl Technology has also produced a simpler, pressurized flight suit known as the Cutaway Anti-G suit, a wrap-around, chap-style garment. However, due to the increased performance of the U.S.’s flight arsenal, the ATAGS has replaced much of the legacy suit’s use.

The garment is a life-critical product that must pressurize on demand without leaking or rupturing. Vinyl Technology has been trusted to produce the air-holding pressurized trousers for this suit for over 10 years. Other suppliers of this suit have been vetted and pared down. VTL is often the sole supplier of this product due to the complexity of its defense manufacturing.
